I started off 2011 as a 30-year-old mother of 2 young girls and the wife to an athletically built man. I was 152 pounds, from a family of Irish/German, meat-and-potato types and interested in losing just 10 pesky pounds to regain my pre-pregnancy weight. I had a membership to the Y, and did 30-60 minutes of cardio 3 times a week, at minimum. I used weight machines and scurried in and out of the gym like a devoted little member, as often as possible.
This routine, along with calorie counting, helped me lose over 50 pounds already. Yes, folks, I gained nearly 70 pounds while pregnant with my children. Calorie counting taught me the value of food, right choices to maximize my plate and control. Cardio helped that excess weight burn off, to a point. But that was it. I was stuck and I wasn’t happy with the number or the image I saw in the mirror.
After a year of investigation and multiple small changes to my daily food habits, I decided to go Paleo. Within 2 weeks of cutting sugar and grain, my belly was flatter, my face was thinner, my energy had skyrocketed. Within 1 month, I lost 8 pounds that hadn’t budged in over 6 months and within 3 months I was seeing numbers on the scale that I hadn’t seen in 10 years. But even more so, I felt better. I felt stronger. And mostly, I felt compelled to share my journey with others.
It’s been 1 entire year of living (as) Paleo (as possible) and I am ready to share my experiences with you in a new way, through a blog aptly named by my 4-year-old. I recognize that people need to take their own journey in life and my mission is only to remain focused on wellness, health, happiness and peace in all aspects of life. I hope you will take this journey with me and share your own experiences along the way.
I am happy to start 2012 as a 31-year-old mother of two super rad girls and the wife of a fully supportive husband. I am 128 pounds, I CrossFit 3 times a week and make time for rest periods that do more for my body sometimes then the actual workouts. I am strong, confident and at peace.
